From beer to castle...it's a long way! Endeavoring to comply with ever more stringent requirements, the master brewer carried out numerous tests before he produced a creamy dark beer. The fruit of his labor goes under the name of Kasteelbier. It combines the unparalleled quality of the past and a resolutely modern taste. Kasteelbier Brown is a brown craft beer with secondary fermentation, mild and tasty, full-bodied and creamy... It has a shelf life of several years. 11%ABV. Should be served at 12 C. Kasteelbier Blond is soft, creamy, nutty, and rounded, with a vanilla note. The intense Kasteelbier Blond is characterized by an outstanding blend of noble malts and hops, which lend it a refined aroma and exceptional flavor.

It is often in this state that drinkers begin to see the fabled pink elephants featured on the labels of the distinctive Delirium Tremens bottles. The beer is brewed by the Huyghe brewery, which has been in existence since 1654 and now exports 65% of their production from Belgium. Delirium Tremens is a beer of fine manufacture and was voted ‘Best Beer in the World’ by specialists in 1997. Conceived with three different yeasts it presents a beautiful colour, blond and coppery as well as a compact and abundant head. The beer has a nose of wheat and barley with traces of coriander and orange. Full and round in the mouth it is also spicy, with a pleasant bitterness to the taste. This beer has an abv of 9% so those pink elephants are never far away !

Orval, which means golden valley, refers to a Trappist monastery that brews one of the world's most complex beers. Bottle-conditioned, Orval is as beautiful as it is delicious. The famous head, which leaves "Belgian lace" on the glass, tops a turbid beer that improves with age. A strong nose of hops and a fresh dry maltiness, along with yeast distinct to Orval, yields a beer like no other.

Eight generations ago, in 1809, the Lindemans family owned a farm in Vlezenbeek near Brussels. They decided to intensify Lambic brewing activities during winter, when less farm work had to be done. The farm produced wheat and barley, the raw materials of the Lambic. Due to the growing success of the Lambic, the brewery became more important and consequently, in 1930, the farm-activities were stopped. It was in that year that they started the production of Geuze and Kriek. In 1978, Lindemans started the production of Faro, after a period during which it was almost disappeared from the market. The Framboise was launched in 1980 and due to the success of the fruit-beers, they created 2 new beers: Cassis (black current beer) in 1986 and Pecheresse (peach beer) in 1987.

This is a smooth, dry, hoppy beer from one of the six Trappist breweries. This is the best known and most respected of Westmalle's beers, and the brewery's strongest. With plenty of vanilla and some spices in the nose, the primary characteristic of this beer is dry, powdery fruit. Initially light on the tongue, Tripel has a very pleasant and rounded vanilla character, with spicy hop flavours and a touch of spirits. Some elusive malt notes are also buried in there somewhere, but chiefly come across as light fruit. At the finish it cloys at the back of the throat to produce a long whisky, honey and coriander aftertaste (a little like a hot toddy, I suppose). The beer spends five weeks maturing during its second fermentation, delivering a high degree of complexity and ensuring that it is very highly regarded by the world's beer afficionados.
