Kapittel Abt is coloured amber-orange. Thick, yellowish head, large bubbles, not stable. It’s nose is solvent and fruity as of prunes and citrus. Something spicey there as well. Alcohol in the nose. Taste: Dry. Liquorice, and lots of it. Oh God, this beer has gone down the Leroy drain. Again spicey, maybe mustard seed or horseradish powder. A flavour as if you'ld pour brandy on a lump of sugar. Mouthfeel: quite dry. Alcohol, and alcohol again, quite impressioning. Drying-out effect very obvious. No new aftertaste. A general impression keeps hanging around for quite a bit of time.

Kapittel Blond’s head is long lasting, dense and foamy on a beautiful glittering golden opaque body. Crazy carbonation. Very nice yeasty smell, wheat, with interesting sweet citric notes: mostly lemon, but also a hint of grapefruit. The taste is fruity and very refreshing, with wheat also: the sweet and citric aspects noticeable in the smell clearly appear in the taste. Orange, lemon and more of a grapefruit aspect at the end. Maybe even some light hints of banana and strawberry. A refreshing iodated flavor enjoyably bites the tongue. A very fruity hoppiness gets noticeable after a while. A very smooth and flavorful mouthfeel; a good beer.

: this red-brown abbey ale can be considered a “single”, meaning a beer that was made for the guests of the abbey and for everyday consumption. This of course is a top-fermenting ale, refermented in the bottle, thus kept alive, which means you can age the beer for a few years. The head is strong and keeps well. The aroma lets us think of sweet burning wood, and the taste repeats the burning sense and gives us hints of sweet peaches, ending in a light hoppy bitterness (6% Alc. By Vol.).

Maredsous beers are brewed in perfect harmony with one another : two beers (6° blond and 10° tripple) where a characteristically fresh bouquet and sweet aftertaste go sublimely together, and a creamy foaming dark-coloured variant with a well-balanced flavour of malt and hops (8°).
