Every year on the 24th of February, the birthday of "Charles the fifth", the Brewery brews the Gouden Carolus "Cuvee of the Emperor" in a limited quantity and with an eye on the highest quality and tradition. This unique brewing, with only extra fine Belgian hops and with a higher alcohol level, guarantees a better evolution in the time, than the already known Gouden Carolus. This beer, as all our beers, is 100 % natural, with no preservatives, no adjuncts and no chemicals. We bottle it in bottles of 75 cl and closed with a quality cork. Excellent to store several years. It is a unique gift for every beer-lover at various occasions. This is an exclusive beer with a fine palate of refined flavors and tantalizing aromas.

In an old chronicle of Mechelen we read that this emperor's beer, named with reference to the golden coins of emperor Charles, was mainly drunk at fox hunts because "it fired both rider and steed with such enthusiasm for galloping that the hunt always took place in the best possible atmosphere". "Het Anker" Brewery still brews 'The Emperor's Beer" which is of guaranteed top fermentation and bottle conditionning following traditional methods. Its high gravity (O.G. 1080-85) combines the warmth of wine and the freshness of beer. Gouden Carolus is one of the strongest and most exciting beers in the world. After lengthy maturing and conditioning, it is bottled unfiltered, giving a beer which is rich in vitamines and 100 % natural. Gouden Carolus has unlimited storage (it even imporves with age) and will charm you with its warm coppery colour and its rich bouquet. Ideally, serve at 14°C (57°F). Do not chill. Enjoy Gouden Carolus at leisure. The true connoisseur drinks it in small sips to enjoy it fully.

Brewery Het Anker is the only one still brewing this type of beer. The recipe has its origin in the 14th century. The present version is a little more heavy and contains more hops. The balance between the different malts, the fine hops and typical tastes of spices creates a perfect harmony between the powerful taste of brown beers and the freshness of the blond beers. This fresh aromatic and pithy light-brown drink can be served cool.
